THE MYSTIC AND THE MUSE COLLABORATIVE PROJECT
All ages

Ensemble Galilei’s extraordinary Mystic and the Muse Collaborative Project has been a part of our educational offerings all across this country, engaging students from an elementary school in Hawaii to a high school in rural West Virginia, from a college in Iowa to a lockdown facility for teenagers in Maryland.

The participants write, draw, or paint - while listening to the music of Ensemble Galilei. Then later, poems can be performed by the poets while musicians play during a live performance for the whole school (or other creators). The writers can share their writings live, sometimes in a printed book. Artwork can be displayed in the lobby of the performance hall. It is a deeply collaborative artistic experience, always surprising, always profound.

THE TWELVE WILD GEESE
Ages 8 and up

For centuries fairy tales and folk tales have served an important role in cultures around the world. Children  grew up hearing stories of ogres and evil step-mothers, magical beans and potions that can poison or heal. There’s a reason this tradition has lasted so long - it builds resilience. In these stories terrible things happen, but in the end, goodness prevails. Things will be okay. This is not always the case in the digital world in which our children live. The Twelve Wild Geese brings to young (and old) audiences the threat of disaster but in the end, the princess is saved, the geese are turned back into young men, and a family is reunited. It’s more than a fairy tale, it’s an affirming vision of the world, that’s good for all of us.
